Thousands of residents united together to honour Croydon's war heroes this weekend at Remembrance Sunday services across the borough.
War memorials across Croydon were the focal point for the ceremonies to pay respects to the dead from Britain's two World Wars on Sunday (November 11).
One of the main services was held in the Fairfield Halls where Croydon's Mayor, Councillor Peter Hopson, was part of the 1,000-strong congregation for a memorial service which combined the commemorations for Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day.
David Claridge, from the Mayor's office, paid tribute to the young and old who attended the ceremonies. He said: "It was very well attended.
"There were at least 1,000 people at the memorial service and several hundred people gathered at the cenotaph in Katharine Street for the wreath-laying ceremony.
"There was an excellent turnout from the military and war veterans which made it an even more moving, memorable and poignant occasion, especially in light of what happened on September 11."
