Police have sent out a message of zero tolerance to racists in an attempt to reassure Merton Muslims in the aftermath of the US terrorist attacks.
Chief Supt Stephen Thomas has recognised the growing concern of borough Muslims who have been the target of abuse and death threats since September 11 and said he understood why they feared for racist
attacks, but reassured them following an
increase in racial incidents.
MPs Roger Casale and Siobhain McDonagh have written to Muslim leaders to offer assurance.
To report race crimes call Merton control room on 020 8947 1212 or, in emergency, 999.
