Police are still looking for three men whose companions have been jailed for beating up two policemen so savagely one of them is still suffering from flashbacks.
PC Andy Barnes, from Wimbledon police station, told the Guardian he has flashbacks to the night of September 15 when he and partner patrol officer PC Rob Milliken were assaulted so badly he thought they would die.
The attack happened outside Morden Police office, in Crown Lane, after the two officers spotted a man urinating on the shutters of the building.
They got out of their patrol car but when they got near 20-year-old William Matthews, he launched a sudden, savage attack on the policemen, backed up by his father, Terence, 41, and four other men.
Additional police were called and the father and son were arrested near their home, in Bordesley Road, Morden.
The pair pleaded guilty to threatening unlawful violence and last week were jailed for two years at Kingston Crown Court.
PC Barnes, who has been in the force for around seven years, said he still bore signs of the assault across his back and on his jaw.
He also has problems sleeping and suffers from flashbacks but is glad to be alive.
He said: Nothing as bad has ever happened to me before. I thought I was going to die at the time.
They said, get the Old Bill. Then they all piled in.
My stick was taken off me and if that hits your head, youre dead.
Two years is quite a good sentence but wed all like people like that to get more, he added.
The three other men, believed to have been drinking in nearby Jolsons bar, have yet to be found although one of them, who is known to police, has left London.
