Supervet Grenville Tuck won a team gold medal in the Home Counties Veterans International in Falkirk, Scotland.
Tuck, who is 51 on November 22, was originally selected as a reserve for the England over 50 team after finishing sixth in his category in last months British Veterans cross country championships in Swansea.
But he was called into the squad for Falkirk after an original choice dropped out.
The Hercules Wimbledon runner justified his selection as he finished 37th in the race in 32min 56sec to take fifth place in the over-50 section which was won by his twin brother Graham in 31min 54sec.
He was the third scoring member of the English team which convincingly beat Scotland by 15 points to 52.
Vince Hancock, 57, competing for Englands over-55 team, finished 88th in the race in 35:23 and seventh in the over 55 section. However, he was most unfortunate not to also return with a gold medal as England also took the team honours in this category.
However, the over-55 team contest was on a three-to-score basis compared with four-to-score in the younger age groups and Hancock was Englands fourth runner to finish.
l Some of Hercules Wimbledons youngsters were in good form in an inter-club match on Wimbledon Common.
James-Lee Carley gained a 10 second win over clubmate Alex Bodin in the U15 section covering the two-and-a-half miles in 15:53. Nick Holliday won the over-13 race in 22:20 while James Marmion was first in the U11 section in 23:30.
l This weekend, Hercules compete in the Sweat Shop Surrey cross country league races in Richmond Park, starting from Kingston Gate.
