Brentford failed to set a new club record of eight consecutive wins after losing at Stoke City only their second league defeat of the season.

The first 30 minutes of the game was littered with chances for both sides Lloyd Owusu went close after only three minutes and Stoke's Gudjonson shot over the bar six minutes later.

But after 32 minutes, Stoke's Gunnarsson opened the scoring, heading home a Hoekstra corner.

The Bees hit back on the stroke of half time when Ben Burgess latched on to a poorly-cleared Gavin Mahon free kick and fired high into the top left hand corner of the net.

The home side regained the lead on 49 minutes.

Following a Darren Powell slip, the ball was whipped into the box and Iwelumo slotted home with ease.

It took the Bees only seven minutes to equalise when Owusu capitalising on an error by the home defence and he fired the ball over the oncoming keeper and into the back of the net from long range.

Brentford had a further three chances to score a third, but couldn't quite manage it.

Bees keeper Gottskalksson pulled off a superb fingertip save late on but from the resultant corner, Stoke scored the winning goal when Shtaniuk rose highest to nod home.
