We are all intensely aware that the world changed on September 11. All communities with differing religious factions need to seek ways of harmonious tolerance, and to eradicate symbols that inflame confrontational issues.
Your recent correspondents on the eruv controversy have highlighted the fact that the Mayor is about to issue a licence for this 11-mile system of poles and wires. We are immensely fortunate to live in this multi-faith borough without the racial tensions that have torn apart other parts of the country.
I am proud to serve on the Forum Against Instructive Eruvs and now call upon the eruv committee to prevent this divisive physical 'barrier' being erected that will impinge on so many people going about their ordinary lives.
In the name of God, I trust this intrusive eruv is never erected in our borough. This will only inflame and support the evil of anti-Semitism.
