The uncertainty created by the Liberal Democrat-Labour administration over the future of Flightways is to be deplored (Farewell council homes, say hello to the partners', Times Group, November 8).
The rather woolly assurance from Councillor Phil Yeoman that Flightways users "will be fully consulted" over future plans carries very little comfort.
Why were they not the first people to be consulted?
The Conservative Group on Barnet Council is able to give an unequivocal guarantee that Flightways' future is assured when we regain control of the borough next May.
What is the current administration's problem with this?
Anybody who has visited Flightways cannot fail to be moved and impressed by the kindness and dedication of the staff, and the courage of the users.
This is an excellent and unique facility which cannot be temporarily transferred to another site, unless that site is already equipped as Flightways is to contend with the physical problems which beset their client group.
Whilst supportive of the administration's aspirations to improve and regenerate Grahame Park, this must not be done by creating anxiety and worries amongst the Flightways users, whose physical problems are already burden enough.
