Television presenter Richard Madeley joined forces with police and Neighbourhood Watch officials on Tuesday at the launch of a new crime prevention initiative.
Ringmaster, based at Colindale police station, automatically sends recorded voice messages or emails warning of crime trends. Police currently have more than 700 contacts on their system.
Mr Madeley, who famously presented This Morning with wife Judy Finnigan and lives in Hampstead Garden Suburb, said his family were once burgled while living in Manchester.
"It seems a good idea using email to help combat old fashioned crimes," he said.
"If the internet is used the police stand a much better chance of catching criminals by sending out a patrol car in a few minutes and sending the criminal to the slammer."
