Victim Support Croydon, the local branch of the national charity which offers help and support to victims and witnesses of crime, is looking for volunteers for its Witness Service.
Supported by Croydon Council, the service offers invaluable help to witnesses and victims who have to go to court. Trained volunteers can offer support to those who are anxious or worried, before, during and after a case. This can include accompanying the witness to court for a pre-trial visit, arranging practical details such as parking and expense claims and being on hand to reassure and answer any questions.
Volunteers are now being sought who can begin training in February 2002. They need to be understanding, supportive and have a caring nature and be able to listen and communicate with a wide range of people.
Volunteers will have to commit to working during the day for at least one day every fortnight. All volunteers also receive support and supervision, travel expenses and insurance cover.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please call the Witness Service at Croydon Magistrates' Court on 020 8686 0409.
