The big holiday month is almost upon us, you need some sunshine, prices are limbo-low thanks to American's travel drop-out and rooms are unusually available.

Go on then, get on with it! Book now for the best value, least crowded December vacation of all time!

And support our damaged airline industry and show some true Brit grit in the process!

A good starting point might be the Caribbean, stuffed with American families in previous years, and now looking for you to replace the 65 per cent that have cancelled superb beach holidays or cruises in this great season.

And if you wanted to mix a little culture in with the sun, what about Mexico's Cancun or Playa del Carmen, which will also give you easy access to the incredible Chichen Itza ruins, on top of a lively Mexican lifestyle.

Other culture/beach destinations that are excellent at this time include India and Thailand (west side beaches may be better than east) which should still benefit from the US dropouts despite being further away.

For nearby beach holidays don't even think Mediterranean, try the Canaries or Gambia, though the positive impact of American disappearances will not be much felt there.

Colourful culture spots in December, with superb sights to boot, though no beaches, are Guatemala, Nepal, Myanmar and Cambodia.

And finally, for a really special cruise, what about doing the wildlife of the Galapagos Islands or even Antarctica?
