I had no wish to demonise anybody but did have to give reasons for leaving the Liberal Democrats ( 'Cllr defies party whip and goes independent' Guardian, Nov 8).

I liked Ray Fincher's remarks. Is this the same man who recently spoke against continued funding for Feltham First, then voted for a report that recommended just that?

Wasn't it he who delivered a speech, attacking the government's proposals for improving local government, then voted for them to be adopted?

In the recent candidate selection row, he let me produce 5,000 copies of a leaflet that I thought he had agreed with.

Then he told me that it was unacceptable. Finally, he offered to help deliver them. After all this, he calls me inconsistent.

As for being 'Murphy-centred', I never discovered what the rest of the group was doing.

Was it nothing or did they not want me involved?

None of them took part in the Ashford Hospital campaign.

When I fought to save the TASHA helpline, Ray attended one meeting. The rest of the group did even less. I would have welcomed their involvement. Now that I am on my own, I am less lonely.

I am already part of a group who speak to each other and to me.
