Netherne Village1
Enfield Town2
(Cherry Red Books Trophy, second round)ENFIELD Town squeezed past Netherne Village after going a goal down after only three minutes.
The closest Town came to scoring in the first half was on 14 minutes when Bradley Brotherton missed at close quarters, though Danny Alleyne had a shot narrowly wide four minutes later.
Netherne had their chances too. Mark Cecil took his chance to fire in a long shot that Hall dealt with comfortably and a sweeping cross on the half-hour mark only needed the faintest of touches.
The home side's Mark Dalrymple was booked on 33 minutes for a heavy tackle on Larkin, as the referee finally decided to act before things got out of hand in an ill-tempered first half.
It was Town who finished the first half in control with home keeper Ray Merry thankful that both Morris and Negus had failed to hit the target when presented with good scoring opportunities.
Town levelled the scores on 48 minutes after Clarke's cut-back was drilled into the net by Alleyne.
Just two minutes later Town took the lead when Mark Cecil headed into his own net.
By now the visitors were min complete control of the contest and both Brad Quinn and John Everitt went close to extending the visitors' lead.
Nicky Morgan replaced the battered Scott Larkin on 65 minutes but by now Netherne were fighting their way back into the game and Hall made a good save to deny them from a free-kick on 75 minutes.
Desperate tackling from the home defence denied Enfield the chance to increase their lead.
As the contest neared its conclusion, Town slowed the game down and Netherne's frustration began to show, with the home side looking understandably deflated after having been in front for half of the game.
This weekend Enfield Town travel to Leyton for an Essex Senior League contest.
Enfield Town; Hall, Allen, Larkin (Morgan 65), Quinn, Brotherton, Negus, Morris, Everitt, Clarke (Antoine 81), Riley, Alleyne.
