s=9Trevor Sinclair got his first start for the full England side and played a vital role in England's 1-1 draw with Sweden. Sinclair played out wide on the troubled left-hand side for Mr Eriksson's side and won the penalty that enabled David Beckham to smash home England's only goal.o

Speaking about Sinclair's performance, club boss Glenn Roeder said: "I was absolutely delighted that Sven Goran Eriksson decided to use him from the start. I would have liked to be there myself to have seen his first game but I was pencilled in to go to the Belgium v Czech Republic game as I wanted to look at a couple of players.

"When I saw that he had started I was delighted for him, and as I understand it from everyone I have spoken to, he had a terrific first half and certainly looked like what we all felt he was an England player."

Speaking about the red card dished out to Repka, Roeder continued: "He didn't deserve to be sent off at all, he hadn't put a foot wrong and when he was red-carded a minute or so before half time I was very disappointed for him.

Jermaine Defoe and Michael Carrick were both in the under-21 side that had a double header against Holland.

Last Friday they both played in the first leg in Utrecht where the young Lions came back from 2-0 down to snatch a vital draw with two very important away goals.

And they both remained in the side for the second leg on Tuesday which was played out at Derby County's Pride Park stadium.

In a fantastic game, Michael Carrick scored the only goal of the night to see the jubilant youngsters through to next summers European Championship Finals.

Speaking after the game Carrick said: "It was a tough game, but it was more about the result than the performance. We worked hard for each other and it was nice to get the winner."

Carrick of course is one of the three players highlighted by Sven Goran Eriksson who have a chance of getting into the full squad for next seasons World Cup finals in Japan, something that is certainly in his thoughts.

Carrick added: "Of course I want to play in the World Cup. Ask anyone and they will say the same thing. But it's not for me to say, and I know that I have just got to keep performing."
