Harlow2
Bury St Edmunds2Harlow took the field with Mike Armsworth making his debut as an outfield player and he did so well that he might find it difficult to get back to playing in goal.
In this Veteran Cup Match where everyone has to be 40 or over, Harlow were initially shocked to find an opposition so fast, so fit and so accurate with their passes.
But the home side adapted quickly and took the lead when a well worked short corner ended up with Phil Haydon netting rom an extremely acute angle.
On the back foot for most of the game, Harlow defended resolutely with James Paice, Ron Morley and the ever agile keeper Gareth Hurlbutt denying Bury with last ditch interceptions, tackles and saves.
Unfortunately, the Saints did find the net with a strike from a penalty corner and then again from open play.
Harlow equalised when Ron Morley fed Bob Gotobed who swiftly moved the ball onto Keith Johnson who swept the ball home. No more goals came in the rest of the game and extra time was played.
Harlow felt a little aggrieved not to get a penalty flick late on when Bob Gotobed's run from the half way line was ended by a rough challenge.
The game went to flicks and Dave Cresswell and James Paice netted easily and Gareth Hurlbutt save flick after flick, however when it went to sudden death Harlow could not convert and Bury St Edmunds did.
Harlow played well but someone had to lose and on this occasion it was Harlow.
