A PUMP capable of processing 21,000 gallons a minute has been installed at the flood hit Montagu Road area of Edmonton.
The pump, costing the council £100,000 to hire for six months, has been installed at the west side of the culvert adjacent to Salmon's Brook.
Standing a giant 8ft high, 8ft wide and 20ft long, the pump can be fully operational within three hours to avert flood dangers.
Gary Barnes, the council's assistant environment director, said: "This pump will substantially reduce the risk of flooding in the Montagu Road area that we saw last year."
Last October, more than 200 homes were evacuated after the area was hit by severe flooding.
