MEMBERS of the Middlesex Regiment Die Hards and Friends Club restored the Great War Memorial at Southgate's Bowes Road Primary School in time for Sunday's Day of Remembrance.
The members, who are made up of ex-servicemen and war widows, clubbed together to pay for the £200 restoration of the memorial which bears the names of 43 men who lost their lives.
Former regiment soldier and historian Frank Schofield came up with the idea when the school celebrated its centenary this year.
The 66-year-old has since traced the lives of every single serviceman whose name appears on the cross of sacrifice, currently housed in the school hall.
A special service will be held later this month to mark the restoration.
