Peter Baker, chairman of governors at Hampton School, appeared on a BBC documentary on Tuesday.
The managing director of British Bakeries spent a week working on the shop floor of the firms Newcastle factory, one of 17 across the country, to discover the concerns of staff and their ideas for boosting production.
The documentary, part of the Back to the Floor series, showed Mr Baker trying his hand at making hot cross buns, working on the production line and packing bread for distribution.
He also attended a team building seminar and was quizzed about his salary in comparison to the pay rise being offered to staff.
During some candid conversations, Mr Baker was able to discuss his vision for the company with fellow workers and discuss their concerns.
Towards the end of the week he showed other managers some of the problems encountered by workers and discussed the solutions needed to improve conditions for staff.
Mr Baker, who lives in Camberley, became chairman of Hampton Schools governing body last month.
