Local rivals Surbiton and Teddington meet in a derby game at Chiswick this Sunday, after two weeks without a top-level fixture, writes Sean Cotter.
Because of the Champions Trophy in Rotterdam, there have been no National League Premier Division fixtures for a fortnight, but Oxted and Old Georgians more than made up for this last Sunday when they entertained local hockey fans with a gripping Surrey Cup second round tie.
Cup holders and hosts Oxted avenged their disappointment at losing the Premier Division Two championship to OGs last season with a 6-4 victory.
OGs went ahead through an Eddie Kirk open-play goal in the first minute of the game, but Oxted fought back to be 4-1 up thanks to penalty corner goals from Richard Adamson and Calum Giles (two), and a Craig Carolan open-play shot.
Injury
OGs' player-coach Paul Way scored from a penalty corner just before the interval.
Will Glover (penalty corner) and James Tindall (open play) equalised in the first five minutes of the second half, but eventually Giles from a penalty corner and Mark Wallace from open play gave Oxted victory.
Richmond remain top of the South League Premier Division despite only drawing 2-2 at Maidenhead on Saturday.
Graham Berry and Mark Morris scored for the west London team, who lead Purley Walcountians on goal difference at the top.
Purley brushed aside Fareham 7-1, thanks to goals from Lachlan Fincher (three), Mark Justice, Nick Champness, Nick Hayes and Damian Hallett.
Strong
With their next three league games against the bottom sides, Purley look well placed to enter the Christmas break in a strong league position.
Wimbledon lost touch with the leaders by losing 3-1 at Chichester, but Old Georgians moved back into contention following a 3-2 home victory over Oxford University. Adam Lewis, James Tindall and Kulraj Liddar scored.
Old Cranleighans lost 4-0 away to City of Portsmouth to stay bottom of the table.
Oxted dropped into second place in Division Two after their home game against Gore Court was abandoned after 20 minutes when one of the umpires pulled a calf muscle and no qualified replacement could be found.
There were not too many grumbles from Oxted since they were two goals down at the time.
Spencer (Wandsworth) drew 2-2 in their home derby against Epsom, with goals from Mike Irvine and Rob Easton. Paul Atkinson and Ian Morrish replied for the visitors.
Old Kingstonians won 3-2 at bottom-of-the-table Tulse Hill thanks to goals from Dan Roberts, Gary Niewnow and Chris Peun.
Brace
In the Hampshire/Surrey League, Wanderers' Jamie McBride hit a hat trick and Jan van Heel a brace as they enjoyed a 5-3 home win over Hamble Old Boys.
Barnes beat bottom side Wokingham 5-0, but London Edwardians lost 10-1 at home to Woking and London Wayfarers were beaten at home 3-1 by Basingstoke.
In Surrey League Division One, NPL-Lensbury had a surprise 3-0 away victory over leaders Reigate Priory and London University won 4-0 at Thames Valley.
But Walton & Weybridge lost 4-0 at Bank of England and Metropolitan Police were defeated 4-1 by Goan.
In Division Two, Merton under their new player-coach Paul King are still third after a 2-1 win at Horley, while Cheam are fourth after a 2-2 home draw with bottom club London Edwardians III.
NPL-Lensbury 3s drew 1-1 with Hersham in the Surrey Open League Division 3. Tom Mays scored for Hersham.
