THE Kent Cross Country League was held as part of the Reebok International Cross Country Challenge at Hartsdown Park, in Margate, last weekend.
In a field made up from teams from all over Europe, the highest placing for Dartford Harriers AC came from under-13 Jo Roberts, who won her age group in the Kent League and was 38th overall on a mostly flat, fast and well-drained course.
Results for Dartford Harrriers in the under-13s were: Paul Constable 49th and Joshua Payne 65th.
Under-15: Michael Val-entine 37th, David Heely 38th, Stephen Munn 55th, Tom Walsh 59th, Richard Harris 85th and Lewis Nichols 92nd .
Under-17: Lee Ambrose 91st and Stephen Barker, who 97th on his debut.
The Southern Counties Veterans' Athletics Club held its inaugural indoor pentathlon last Sunday.
Athletes from as far away as south Wales and Liverpool travelled to the Thames Valley Athletics Centre at Eton.
Competitors included the cream of multi-eventers as well as novices, and standards were excellent.
The five events of the pentathlon discipline are: 60m hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot-putt and 60m sprint. The 33 competitors, whose age ranged from 35 to 65-plus included three Dartford Harriers.
Gary Capon in the M40 age group was well satisfied with his first
attempt at a multi-event competition, finishing third in his age group.
Anne Goad took the Southern winners' award in the W40 age section, while Kay Koppel was second in the W65 age group.
