I read with interest your letter from Mr N Burgess, (Intrusive Eruv', Times Letters, November 15). He states that this eruv, if erected in our borough will inflame and support anti-Semitism, but it appears that he seems to know nothing about the eruv system.
By writing his letter, has he not stirred up a possible hornets nest himself? If he had seen an eruv, which I doubt, he would know that it is so indiscernible; that one does not know it is there.
It is certainly not intrusive and as for being divisive, surely the fact that women with young babies and toddlers cannot go about their business on the Sabbath is more divisive in the community?
What is the difference between telephone poles with wires and the Eruv? Nothing. Once the Eruv poles are up, no one will even know they are there. Grow up Mr Burgess and go and visit Carmel College where an eruv exists. I bet you will find it difficult to even find it.
