Your readers should be aware of the infantile nature of the Labour-Liberal administration currently 'governing' Barnet.

At the recent Council Policy Conference meeting, the Conservative Group tabled a totally non-political motion expressing the desire for a continuation of harmonious relations between the different religious and ethnic groups within the Borough during this time of international tension.

It called for a special conference to be convened, with the support of the leaders of Barnet's diverse cultural groups, for the purpose of pursuing this objective.

The motion was emasculated by the administration, who 'amended' it beyond recognition to a statement basically 'patting itself on the back' for its work in the field of race relations.

Of course the amendment was passed, due simply to the administration's slender majority in the council chamber, but what an abysmal waste of time the debate was. If the Conservative motion had been supported in the first instance, far more goodwill would have been generated all round.
