CHRIST Church is launching an appeal for a new two-storey extension costing £412,000.
The project has been in the pipeline for four years and is designed to make the Dartford church more accessible to the community.
The 12m high extension on the north and east side of the church, in Church Road, will cover a quarter of a hectare and was given the go-ahead by Dartford Borough Council last week.
It will provide practical improvements such as a covered entrance ramp for disabled access, a safe place to store bikes, toilet facilities, a changing room and kitchen. For recreational use there will two rooms for group meetings and reading.
The Rev David Kitley, from Christ Church, who is organising the Cross Road Project, said: "I am extremely excited about the new building.
"A group of us have been meeting for the last four years to design ways to make the church more open and accessible to the public.
"We will be appealing to our church members and various charitable bodies to raise the money."
