A CENTENARIAN from Forest Hill scotched health-nuts with her recipe for an extra-long life.

One hundred-year-old Bessie Whitfield, who swears by her daily intake of whisky, sported a diamante tiara made by her family for the special day.

And the great-great grandmother of two enjoyed a surprise when her favourite distillery sent her a birthday card and a complimentary bottle of the fiery spirit for her years of loyalty.

Daughter Edna Yardley said her mum, always put her longevity down to two things. She said: "Mum's had a tough life, but she's sure the drop of scotch she takes in her tea in the morning and a little more in the evening is beneficial. She overcame breast cancer a few years ago, and always says the whisky helped.
