FUTURE financial wizards will be showing their worth when they take on the role of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee in the 'Target 2 Point 5' interest rate challenge
The 16 to 18-year-old brain boxes from Cranford Community College will make a live presentation to a panel of Bank of England judges discussing economic conditions and the outlook for inflation in the hope of winning prizes of £10,000, £5,000 and £2,000.
They will also decide what interest rate they would like to set to meet the government's inflation target.
"This coincides well with the economics course we are doing at the moment," said Rahee Nayar, a student at Buckingham College School. "Most of the work we need to do is based on most of our topics so it is just a case of going a little bit further."
The challenge, which began on Monday (Nov 19), will see winning teams from each region go forward to the area finals in February.
