ARTISTS are opening their doors to the public as the Surrey Artists' Open Studios event enters its third year.

The aim of the event, which will run from June 8-16 next year, is to bring artists and craftspeople together with their audiences for a few days to discuss their work.

Surrey County Council's visual arts officer, Alison Clarke, said: "This exciting event is valuable to everyone involved. Artists gain a wider audience, positive feedback, contact with other artists and an opportunity to sell their work.

"Last summer 117 artists took part, from potters to jewellers and from furniture makers to painters.

"The results exceeded our expectations and the artists received more than 7,000 visitors and sold over £40,000 worth of art work, with sales still continuing."

It is hoped that the 2002 event will attract even more artists, and those interested should contact Sandie Sharp at the county arts unit on 01483 750370 or at scyt@surreycc.gov.uk for an application form.

The closing date is February 4.
