Senior Andrew Hennessy was outshone by Under-15 Jack Taylor in the North of the Thames Championships at Kingsbury, as Taylor took gold in his event, to Hennessys silver, but Hennessy was recompensed as he led the team home in first place for overall gold.
Taylor, running in the 4,500 metres championship over two undulating laps of Fryent Country Park, was undaunted as he strode to the front of the field just after the gun and cruised round for victory by 20 seconds in a time of 16 minutes and 57 seconds.
Hennessy, however, in the senior 11km event, did not have this luxury.
From the gun, he had to run in the wake of Cross Country International John Downes as the two of them broke away from the rest of the field early on.
Hennessy came home second in a time of 36 minutes and 44 seconds for silver.
