PLANS to relocate the Wolvercote paedophile clinic to Silverlands is still on the Home Office agenda, community campaigners insist.

Fearful of government intentions to pacify residents, Silverlands Action Campaign this week issued a statement claiming there were attempts under way to persuade Chertsey householders that the clinic would actually enhance their children's safety.

The claims followed calls from Home Office relocation manager Tony Raban and Review Committee head Beverley Hughes for individual meetings with representatives from schools, faith groups, resident associations, the health trust and council. Tina Snelling, spokeswoman for Silverlands Action Campaign, said: "It is my opinion that these meetings are purely to pacify the local community and talk the community into thinking that a paedophile clinic will enhance our children's safety.

"The Home Office has still given us little hard evidence of the criteria used when deciding on Silverlands as an appropriate site for convicted sex offenders, nor have they provided any information on how they will conduct their review of Silverlands and other alternatives."
