Speaking before the win over Morecambe, Steve Coppell bemoaned the declining status of the FA Cup.
"I am concerned about the future of the competition in many ways as Wembley has now disappeared and is increasingly looking as if it won't be replaced. So you can't link the Final with the home of football as you could in the past. Also, in time it will probably be that winning the tournament will also not guarantee you qualification for Europe.
"That of course may erase the value of the tournament although I sincerely hope not. But there is something still magical about it and the fact that were playing non-league opposition is the very beauty of the competition."
Turning to Steven Sidwell's call up to the England Under 20 squad, he added: "I'm sure when he looks back on his career in years to come, the fact that he made his league debut at Brentford will have some significance.
"We should all be very pleased for him and with him. So a little bit of Brentford goes with him as well."
Finally, he turned his attention to the league. "Every week I say to the players this is your biggest test, because this division throws up a different challenge each week.
"There are so many styles and so many teams have different strengths.
"If you look in the Premiership all the best teams play in the same kind of way. But in this division there are so many different methods."
