Contest it now
We can expect the demise of a lot more councillors now the new mayoral system has been forced in by the Labour Party. The elected mayor cannot be sacked, but councillors forming his senate can be. This trial has seen many councillors who have been looking after our interests drop out. Councillors Mallory and Parmar, both of whom looked after our interests, are unable to attend meetings because they went against an elected mayoral system. We all should contest this as the result was questionable. Otherwise the citizens of Lewisham will see the loss of so many good elected councillors and one man controlling the purse strings.

Get it sorted
I have just read the letter in this week's News Shopper about dog mess on the streets of Greenwich (News Shopper, November 14). The author of the letter, name and address supplied, lambasted your publication for not carrying more "newsworthy" stories. But as a resident of the borough myself, I have to say I think it is important you feature such stories. Not a day goes by without me having to negotiate my way down the pavement like a soldier crossing a minefield. There is a big dog mess problem here and it needs to be sorted.

Think about it!
I have just read your letters (News Shopper, November 14) and have to say what a good point Kenneth Braddon makes. He was writing about how the founding fathers of America decided to adopt English over German by just one vote. This got me thinking. What if they had chosen German? The entire world would be a different place. It really makes you think. Germany may have won the world wars and we on this small island might also be speaking German now. Amazing!
