IN response to Mrs Pleasance's plea for help finding public toilets in Leyton (Letters, November 8), the only ones I know of are at Leyton Green, opposite the bus garage, and just around the corner I believe there are
public loos in the Bakers' Arms Tesco store.
The lack of public conveniences really is a problem for elderly people and those with small children.
When I moved to Waltham Forest from Ealing in 1984, Ealing was called the Queen of the Boroughs because roses grew so well there residents prosaically believed this was because unburnt kerosene falling from
Heathrow-bound aircraft killed the greenfly.
Ealing also then boasted the most public loos of any London borough. It would not surprise me to find that Waltham Forest today has the least which probably explains the signs commonly seen on most of our local pubs: "Toilets for patrons' use only".
