London Division Four, North East
CANVEY Island were the visitors to Eton Manor last weekend, and the Manor set their stall out early, pressurising from the start.
Yet even so, it took 20 minutes for the Manor to get the breakthrough that they deserved when from a five yard lineout, the ball was cleanly gathered by Tony Armstrong who fed flanker Angelo Comparini, who crashed over the Canvey line. Greg Anderson converted to put the Manor 7-0 up.
On the half hour mark Angelo Comparini was sent off after the referee had adjudged that he had thrown a punch, sending the home side down to 14 men.
Despite this set back, the Manor scored again, Paul Brunsden passing to Steve Wright who scored a superb try far out.
Just before the break, Austin Relton set up a maul 20 yards out and it was carried on by Keith Munro who fed John Pike, quickly despatching the ball to flyhalf, Greg Anderson who shimmied over between the posts and later converted his own try.
After the break, Canvey scored a penalty to cut the score down to 19-3, but with Hollis Blake scoring far out and Anderson converting, Manor opened the gap up to 26-3.
After 72 minutes, Canvey were forced to concede a penalty, again Anderson converting and when John Pike crashed over in the corner, it gave Manor a 34-3 victory.
