A Carshalton kidney cancer patient who is only the second man in the country to undergo stem cell technology, is now waiting to see whether the treatment will pay off.
Following his transplant, Kevin McKiernan and his family must now wait six months before measuring the success of the treatment.
In the fifth of his columns appearing weekly in our sister paper, the Sutton Comet, we hear Kevin's latest news.
"I got home last Saturday from the QE in Birmingham. My five-year-old son found it hilarious to see his Dad without hair and couldn't stop laughing and stroking my head. After three and half hours driving, I was very tired but delighted to be home.
"But will the treatment tackle the cancer? There is no guarantee it will work. I am now hoping that I will be one of the lucky ones who respond to this innovative treatment."
