I was very impressed to read in the Guardian that Sutton Council would take away up to five items of furniture twice a year.
However, when I phoned them last week to ask if my 14-year-old suite could be taken away I was told that they couldn't take it until at least January 2002.
I have phoned several charities, but they are not interested in any such furniture which doesn't have current fire regulations (ie more than about 10 years old).
Does this explain why the London Borough of Sutton has such a problem with fly-tipping?
