EUROPEAN health and safety week was celebrated in Greenwich and Charlton when 110 children from seven playclubs entered an art competition.
Contestants aged five to 11 were asked to create pictures and models to promote safety at work.
Cash prizes totalling £100 were awarded to winners by Green-wich mayor, Councillor Terry Malone.
Kidbrooke Park playclub, Hargood Road, scooped the Group prize winning £30. Meridian playclub, Old Woolwich Road, was equally successful when Celeste Abayomi, 7, won £20 for best individual artwork and Jermaine Mitchell, 8, came in second, winning £10. Other winners came from South Rise playclub, Brewery Road, Bannockburn playclub, Plumstead High Street, and Potteries playclub, Blackwall Lane.
An exhibition was also organised on the theme "Success is no Accident".
At the presentation in Woolwich Town Hall Cllr Malone said: "Greenwich Council is committed to providing and maintaining a safe working environment for all employees and contractors, and to ensuring the safety of residents and visitors."
According to health and safety executives, 47 people were killed in work related accidents in the Greater London area last year.
