A DARTFORD man accused of espionage along with 11 other Britons may face further charges.

Mick Keane, aged 57, of Burnham Road, who has travelled all round the world plane spotting, was arrested 19 days ago after taking photographs inside a military base near the south-eastern town of Kalamata, in Greece.

The charges can carry a maximum sentence of 20 years.

The group of aviation enthusiasts were on a holiday organised by Suffolk-based firm Touchdown Tours.

Mr Keanes's wife, Sue, 52, who works for GlaxoSmithKline has described the situation as absurd.

Since the investigation began, it has emerged the group allegedly collected information at an air force base which is meant to be top secret Megara airfield near Corinth.

The Britons did not initially tell the Greek authorities about all the installations they surveyed.

The group is now believed to have been to five military bases, Megara, Kalamata, Tanagra, Andravida and Araxos during their week's holiday.

A Foreign Office spokesman who was expecting the group to be in court yesterday (Tuesday), said: "We understand that new charges may be bought before some or all of the group."

He added: "We can't say any more than that."
