MORE than 40 athletes from Bromley Athletic Club tpook part in the first Kent County Athletics Association Sports Hall held at Swanley.
Teams of four athletes competed in age groups ranging from mixed boys and girls under-11 to separate boys and girls under-15. when some very good performances were recorded.
Of particular note were the performances of Amy Gibbs, the club's leading under-13 female athlete of the day, Jade Castell-Thomas, second-placed under-13 female athlete of the day, and Rob Wallace, leading under-15 boy athlete of the day.
Along with Amy Jackson and Lauren Blackie, the under-13 girls' team won its age group contest in very good style.
The other under-13 girls comprising Nicola Pollard, Harriet Curr and Ellie Bull all competed as individuals and again achieved some very creditable results.
The under-15 girls team comprising Amy Godsell, Catherine Townsend, Vikkie Cole and Ashley Pope achieved a second place in their grouping with a very good team performance containing some very sparkling individual results.
Meanwhile, all the other girls, Carly Vineall, Lizzie Kenny, Rachel Blackie, Nicola Moran, Charlotte Humm and Catherine Woolgar competed very strongly to achieve some good figures. Rachel threw yet another personal best in the shot-putt with 8.64m.
The under-13 boys of Scott Blackwell, Sam Wardingley and Dane Cole competed as individuals in their age group. Again some startling performances were in evidence, particularly from Scott, who literally ran away with the two-lap race.
Rob Wallace, Kent champion at triple jump and javelin, again turned up trumps while leading the under-15 boys to victory.
Wallace simply outclassed the opposition in four of the five events, while Austin Goh and Alex Worley were also strongly in contention for the individual title but were just pipped by Rob.
The under-15 team of Michael and Christopher Jaques, Graham Rolleston and Doran Morgan deservedly took the team event with some very gutsy performances.
The real stars of the day however were the under-11 teams. The squad of Julia Stacey, Helen Abrahams, Stewart Worley and Ian Allocca achieved a creditable final position of eighth out of 19 competing teams.
The other two teams of Grace Power, Charlotte Osborne, Laura Brooks and Alix Duffy-Penny; and Amy and Tom Moran, Rose Power and Daisy Ridout, showed just what they are capable of, despite finishing lower down the order, with some exceptionally good performances in some of the events.
If you are interested in joining the club, male or female, then come to Norman Park at 6.30pm on any Tuesday or Thursday, or from 6-7pm on Wednesdays if you are of primary school age.
