Battersea boxer Howard Eastman just failed to make it a double British world title success in Las Vegas last Saturday night, writes Ziad Chaudry.
Eastman who fought on the undercard to the Lennox Lewis-Hasim Rahman world heavyweight championship rematch was outpointed by America's William Joppy in a very close encounter for the vacant WBA middleweight crown.
In the final seconds of the 12-round fight, the Battersea Bomber floored Joppy with a superb double right hand.
But despite his gallant efforts, the three ringside judges gave Maryland-based Joppy the verdict with scores of 113-113, 114-112, 115-112. It was Eastman's first defeat in 33 contests.
Lewis recaptured his title with a knock-out fourth round punch.
