I WAS surprised to find no mention in the Guardian of a very impressive ceremony which was held at Hawkey Hall on October 3.
This was the Jack Petchey Achievement Awards presented by the Scout County of Greater London North East, which includes Wanstead and Woodford as Epping Forest South.
Some 150 young people were awarded £200 each from the foundation to mark their achievement in scouting, the money to be used to support their section, buy equipment or support a community project.
The ceremony was superbly organised and the awards were presented by the deputy lieutenants of the boroughs involved.
You probably know of Jack Petchey, who is a local businessman and millionaire, and it seems to me a great pity that you were not able to publish details of this event.
