Addiscombe 4 bt Merton 1

Addiscombe maintained their lead in Surrey Men's Division Two with a 4-1 away win at third-placed Merton on Saturday.

The Croydon side started strongly and quickly had Merton on the back foot, with the recalled Dan Dorman and the pace of Chris Reid causing problems.

Addiscombe's Neil Wray opened the scoring when he slotted home his 20th goal of the season before Dorman double the lead.

A series of short corners resulted in Yeates converting Addiscombe's third before Merton came out stronger in the second half and pulled a goal back from a short corner.

But Addiscombe replied quickly when Lyle D'Costa touched home to maintain his team's eight-point league lead.

Addiscombe advanced to the next round of the HA Vase with an excellent win at Trinity school on Sunday.

Addiscombe dominated the opening 20 minutes and raced to a 3-0 lead. Keith Yeates scored first from a deflected short corner before an Ed van der Willnard penalty stroke increased the lead. Andy Allison tucked away the third.

Dean Davis made some crucial saves for Addiscombe and while Cirencester scored twice from a penalty stroke and a short corner, they couldn't get a third.

Meanwhile, Addiscombe Second XI settled for a 1-1 draw in their league game with Merton 2's. Simon Reay-Jones was on target for Addiscombe.

Addiscombe Third XI beat Cheam Cheetahs 6-3 to keep their promotion hopes alive.

The Addiscombe Ladies First XI moved into second place in Division Three with a 2-0 win over Merton.

Antony and Caire Messom were the scorers.

The Second XI had a week off while the Third XI played a friendly away at Byfleet 3's. Di Thomas scored Addiscombe's goal in a 1-1 draw.
