Parliament Hill was the scene for Saturday's Combined London Championships and Southern Counties Veterans Championships, the latter held over from March 2001 due to foot and mouth precautions affecting the original course at Burchetts Green in Berkshire
This meant that the competitors were running in one race, but contesting for both, as the veteran contingent were also scoring in the Southern Veterans Championships where the Thames Valley Harriers team finished a magnificent sixth, thanks to the staunch efforts of Lee Benjamin 79th overall, but 56th in the London and 26th in the Vets, in the 10,000 metre event.
Larry O'Brien finished 117th (race), 70th (London) and 33rd (Vets), while Paul Jenkins, in a below-par performance was 163rd (race) 39.15 and 70th in the Vets, with final scorer in the Veterans team, Mike Wilson with a time of 39.45 for 177th (race) 125th (London) and 78th (Vets).
Scoring only for the London team, Bernie Robbins ran well to finish 41st in a time of 35 minutes 41, after being 60th in the overall race. Other finishers were: Phil Wetton 189th overall in 40.01, 295th Nick Dibb 45.12, 309th Jimmy OKeeffe 46.20, 329th Simon Maddison 48.44.
