CONMEN are roaming the county offering cheap Christmas presents, trading standards cautioned this week.
Surry County Council officers said residents should not be fooled by designer-name watches for rock bottom prices because they were often faulty.
A spokesman said: "Teams of salesmen are selling what they term expensive watches with names Krug Baumer and Claude Valentini from unusual locations, such as on petrol forecourts or near cash points, throughout Surrey.
"The sales pitch may be delivered from expensive cars, and the salesman often shows an advert from a glossy magazine where the watch is advertised at a high price, offering to 'do a deal' for cash. The salesman continues by saying that the retail outlet is in a prestige location, such as Regent Street or New Bond Street."
