POLICE rushed from their station after a hand grenade brought in by a resident led to evacuation orders.
On Monday, a man who had been clearing the home of an elderly ex-soldier who had recently died, discovered a World War II grenade and delivered it to Ashford station.
The station was evacuated until the bomb disposal team discovered the grenade had been de-activated. The man also sought police advice regarding a ceremonial sword.
Inspector Jerry Westerman said: "People still occasionally find an item like this which may be dangerous, and if they have any doubts they ought to call us rather than move the object." Call Surrey Police on 01784 450261.
