THE potential fridge mountain crisis seems to be verging on the ridiculous.
In a few weeks time EU regulations are set to come into force preventing fridges being disposed of in the current way which releases harmful gases into the atmosphere.
This week, rather than quickly trying to install suitable methods of disposal, the government has simply told people not to buy fridges in the near future.
I would hardly call that practical or realistic. Shoppers do not buy new fridges just because they like the look of them. It's more often than not because their current one has broken down, and they need somewhere to store their food. It's not a matter of wanting to buy a fridge, it's a matter of necessity.
Such advice is also damaging to the economy and has, unsurprisingly, been condemned by local fridge retailers.
It's difficult to know where to lay the blame, the EU or the Government, but one thing is for sure, it's a mad situation to be in.

The gunpoint carjackings are frightening, and are yet another type of crime inflicted on the streets of Wanstead and Woodford.
For years, residents have called for CCTV and more police on the streets, but they are continually told the area is not as needy as other London boroughs. It's no wonder local people are angry.
The local police are not at fault, and do the best they can with the resources they have.
But do we have to wait until criminals in the other boroughs realise that the area is not as highly policed, and decide to get their pickings here?
