ADVENTUROUS fundraisers are set to walk along part of the Great Wall of China to raise money for the St Clare Hospice.
Four participants Nazeing district councillor John Carr, Wendy and Alan Stevens and Gillian Browring who are all from Nazeing and who call themselves the "Fabulous Four" will be among those making the ten-day trip next June
Mr Carr said: "We're definitely looking forward to this unique experience. Moreover, it will help raise funds for a very worthwhile cause."
In all, 20 people will be raising funds for the Hastingwood hospice by taking part in the expedition, which will involve covering 65 miles along the 2,500-year-old monument one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
They will be expected to cover about six miles in a day which will include climbing up the side of a waterfall near the 3,500-mile long wall.
Mrs Browring, 42, of Tatfield Avenue, said: "It's going to be a great challenge as I've never been there before. Also, I'm glad to be able to help the hospice as it took very good care of my dad before he died of lung cancer about three years ago."
Mrs Stevens, of Pecks Hill, said: "From what I've gathered, it will be a very informative trip and we're looking forward to it."
The Nazeing quartet are expected to raise at least £2,500 from the trip and intend to pay their air fare themselves to raise as much as possible for the hospice.
The hospice's fundraising assistant Caroline Bore, who is also taking part in the expedition, said: "We hope to raise at least £50,000 through the trip. I was a bit worried initially as I've got vertigo and we will be doing a lot of walking and climbing. But it also represents a personal challenge for me."
Anyone willing to sponsor a participant should ring either the hospice on 01279 413590 or Mr Carr on 01992 872611.
