A mother is calling for safety improvements after her two-year-old daughter lost the tips of her fingers when a gate slammed shut in Morden Hall Park.
Lindsay Carter, of Bramley Court, Phipps Bridge, was walking her dog with two-year-old Amie and her four-year-old brother Thomas last Sunday when the accident happened by the park entrance, near Phipps Bridge tram stop.
Miss Carter said: It was very traumatic for all of us, we were all in shock.
She added: My daughter was screaming and my son is now blaming himself because he was holding the gate when it swung shut and her hand got caught in the side of it.
Thomas has had nightmares over this. Amie lost the tips of three of her fingers. There was a lot of blood and the finger tips were just lying there on the ground next to the gate.
Miss Carter thinks the popular National Trust-owned, 124-acre park should be made safer for children.
Its just so dangerous. They should do something about it before someone suffers an even more serious injury, she added.
The angry mum claims that when she rang the park to complain the person didnt take her name and didnt seem to want to do much.
Doctors at St Georges Hospital, Tooting tried in vain to save Amies fingers but they were too badly damaged.
A National Trust spokesman said it was an unfortunate incident and staff would look into the matter.
