More than 15 youngsters in Merton took part in a regeneration day at a Wimbledon youth centre.
The group, all aged between 12 and 19, finished a mural, planted shrubs and cleaned up at the South Wimbledon Youth Centre, in Haydons Road, Wimbledon.
Some of the people who took part in the work day live on the nearby High Path Estate near Merton High Street and all who came along attend the centres youth club.
They completed a 12ft wide, 4ft high dragon mural with spray cans their own idea and planted flowers in planters to brighten up the outside grounds.
Youth and Environment Project Officer Cheryl Bowen said the day was enjoyed by all: The participants made decisions about taking control to improve their environment and have a say in what happens to it.
The youngsters had previously attended workshops during half-term when they started the mural and discussed the project.
It aims to involve young people at the centre of the decision-making process for its regeneration through art, video and planting work, using an environmental theme.
The young people also made suggestions such as using part of an area currently used as a car park for a play area.
They have made a video of the project which they are planning to edit in due course.
Other groups using the centre include the Asian Youth Association, PHAB, and the Moving On Moving Out project, which helps young people who have difficulties at school.
