So Brian Gordon thinks that debating how we keep good community relations between people of differing religions and ethnic groups is an "abysmal waste of time" (Waste of time', Times Letters, November 11). We couldn't disagree more.
Dialogue and discussion is the only way to understand and accept people who have different backgrounds, and for them to accept us. That is why we supported Barnet Council asking the Civic Forum to consider how best we can continue good relations within the borough in the light of the appalling terror attacks on September 11 and the resulting international situation.
Just because Brian Gordon didn't get his own way, doesn't mean he should dismiss debate in a sulk. Instead, councillors of all political parties should be promoting such learning about other faiths and cultures, especially through the education of children.
