The latest planning application of Barnet FC for a multi-million pound stadium off Barnet Lane, if agreed by Barnet Council, would be a death blow for this part of the borough.

But leaving aside the quality of life, pollution and road danger for young children at the three nearby schools, the repercussions on traffic could be catastrophic.

Traffic lights would have to be installed at both ends of Barnet Lane and eventually at roads leading to and from Totteridge Lane if serious hold-ups are to be avoided.

The Dollis Brook estate would also require traffic lights otherwise neither cars nor buses could get in or out.

Such a complex would need to operate seven days a week to make a profit so we could expect to see food and drink delivered regularly by HGVs plus litter collection on a similar scale.

I fail to see how 57,000 names or even a million on a petition in favour of the scheme can carry any weight unless the signatories live in the vicinity of the proposed ground.
