In response to Councillor Dan Redford's letter (We need to conclude memorial issue', Times Letters, November 15).
At a Harrow Council meeting dated July 20, 1995, a petition was presented on behalf of the war memorial of Edgware by Councillor Keith Toms for the names of the service personnel that gave their lives in the Second World War to be added to the Edgware war memorial.
A promise from the chairman of the council was given, saying that this matter would be treated with the utmost urgency. Six years later the names have still not been added.
On October 31, a panel was set up to gather the names. The panel concluded and estimated that by the use of steel plaques it would be possible to add up to 300 names.
They also promised that "work would commence on preparation of entries for books or inclusion of war memorials". I think six years is long enough.
Please Harrow Council, do your civic duty and add the names without delay.
I would also like to thank the Times Group for bringing this matter to the general public with its ongoing articles.
