Firefighters in West Norwood have raised more than £5,000 to help victims of the September terrorist attacks in New York.
Crews based at the station in Norwood Road decided to raise money for the families of the firemen killed in the tragedy.
During the weekend of October 13 to 14, volunteers rolled up their sleeves and offered to clean cars on the station forecourt for a donation to their fund, with one anonymous woman contributing a generous £200.
The crews were congratulated on their fundraising last Thursday by Lambeth Councillor John Whelan. Coun Whelan, who works for conference organisers, lost 16 colleagues in the World Trade Centre terrorist attacks.
